REINING FOR BARREL RACERS SCHOOL

TOP TO BOTTOM: Mary Sword & Shrimp; Amy MacDonald & Marty; Mary Sword & Shrimp.

Learn the championship drills which reiners use to get their horses using their hocks and moving their shoulders:

  • How to school your horse to move away from your leg without resisting through the bridle.
  • How to develop body control so your horse responds to your hands and legs during a run.
  • How to check for weaknesses in your horse's response and what to do about them.
  • How to build respect for your hands so your horse never takes you wide nor shoulders in on a barrel.
  • How to pattern your horse so he takes more responsibility and depends less on you for his performance.
  • How to finish your horse so he runs with confidence and consistency.
  • How to prepare so you have the same blazing fast, free flowing runs in competition as you have in practice.
  • How to sense and correct subtle mistakes on the pattern quickly and easily.
  • How to get your horse's full attention so he is mentally focused when it matters most.
  • How to ride and train in a way that creates feather-light, quick responsiveness.
  • How to achieve true collection and why it is necessary in order to be fast.
  • In our Reining For Barrel Racers I clinics, you will learn the four basic drills of body control: roundness, leg-yield, cross-overs and the flower pattern.

In the Reining For Barrel Racers II clinics, we continue developing body control and add four more drills which will benefit your horse when you put him on barrels.

Our Reining for Barrel Racers Summer School is guaranteed to boost your confidence in your horse and yourself. During the School we review/cover the material presented in the Level I and Level II clinics, and we work barrels. We work on patterning the young horse or trouble shooting and fixing problems on older or seasoned horses. This is where we apply all the body control drills we learned in the Reining For Barrel Racers I and the Reining For Barrel Racers II clinics.

Amy MacDonald says: "I HIGHLY recommend learning form JP! He has taught me a ton. He explains things in a way that makes sense to the horse, and the rider, and provides constant positive feedback! This is a clinic to go to!" Amy should know. She has a very impressive list of ABRA awards to her name.
